Coach John has been coaching speech and debate in United States and Internationally for more than a decade. He has helped students of all ages and backgrounds find joy in the art of communication. From Elementary school to Univeristy, John has consistently produced local, state, and national champions. More importantly, he always encourages his students to take what they learn out of the classroom and into the world.
Over almost 15 years, John has coached more than a dozen national champions in Impromptu speaking, Extemporaneous speaking, Parliamentary and NFA LD debate. He has even coached a high school student in Irvine to a college national championship in Impromptu speaking while she was still in high school.
Coach John has a strong record of success with new students. Students who are shy, nervous, or first time speakers are able to have incredible growth with coach John. More than 90% of his 1st year students win awards, most in multiple events.
Michael is a national champion speaker and debater. His academic training is in economics. Michael has worked as an economic consultant and he's done research on training students to become financially and economically literate. When students learn from coach Michael, they don't just learn speech and debate, they learn how think like an economist.
As a college competitor, Coach Carl was a Speech & Debate state and national champion. Since then, year after year, he has coached numerous High School state finalists and league champions at Arcadia High School, one of the largest forensics teams in Southern California in one of the most competitively ranked districts. In 2017, Carl coached a first-year Junior High student who became a national finalist in Informative Speaking. Outside the community, Carl has performed as a professional magician for several years—at private parties, corporate events, and at the World Famous Magic Castle in Hollywood, CA. Carl’s attitude on public speaking stems from a desire to create a warm environment for students to overcome their fears, and his accomplishments proceed a demand for excellence in teamwork and personal growth. Carl’s students work hard to succeed and understand that practice outweighs natural ability.
Jeff started his speech career in fifth grade and has continued to build his skills as a successful competitor in a wide variety of events including: Policy debate, Congress, Duo, Original Oratory. Coach Jeff was 13th place in the nation in Informative Speaking at the American Forensics Association Nationals as a college competitor.
Coach Jeff has experience teaching students from Elementary school through College. He is currently a coach at the Westridge School and La Salle High School in Pasadena. He also coached at Lafayette College.
Jeff’s students have had a strong record of success. Since 2015 more than 20 of his students have made it to state or national final rounds. In 2016, coach Jeff broke the record for having the most students qualified for nationals from one school.
Emma is a rare coach. She has been a nationally ranked competitor in speech, debate, and Model United Nations since middle school. While in college, Emma was a national champion in Parliamentary Debate, Persuasive Speech and Extemporaneous Speech.
As a coach, she has been extraordinary. Emma was youngest person ever to be named director of a college speech and debate program taking one of the lowest ranked programs to 15th in the US in her first year of coaching.
Emma is amazing with K-12 students, encouraging every student to develop a passion for public speaking. She has taught multiple subjects to elementary school students at Polytechnic in Pasadena. Poly was named by the the Wall Street Journal as a top 5 high school in the US for sending kids to Ivy League schools. Emma continues to push herself to be the best in the world in everything that she does. In addition to coaching speech and debate, Emma speaks 5 languages and works in real estate analysis managing a portfolio of more than $1 billion dollars.
Aaron, is another coach who has been part of national champion team. Aaron is a science teacher in the Newport-Mesa school district and also a highly sought after yoga instructor who not only knows how to teach complex concepts to students but also how to help them to meditate and reduce stress to increase performance.
Todd is a distance learning coach. He is a Stanford educated lawyer and award winning writer who does policy analysis for the social security administration. Todd provides feedback, analysis, and video lectures that moves students beyond the surface level of analysis and helps them to become deep thinkers.
